A Study of Rose Through Spiritual Eyes

We know that plants can be used to heal, and part of that healing can be in the form of understanding symbols. Let’s take a look at how, when looking at the rose (and any plant) through Spiritual eyes, we can see God’s messages.

For ever since the world was created, people have seen the earth and sky. Through everything God made, they can clearly see his invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse for not knowing God. Romans 1:20

Rose, the Queen of Flowers. A symbol of love since time immemorial. It seems to be common knowledge worldwide that the rose is a symbol of the heart. Medicinally, rose is a tried-and-true ally for the strengthening the physical heart and soothing the emotional heart.

What Biblical messages can we see in the rose? Remember that for Spiritual matters, God is the teacher, not the plant. He can use plants to express His truths.

When we look at the rose as a symbol of the heart Spiritually, we see its thorns as a clear message to guard our hearts.

Above all else, guard your heart, for it affects everything you do. Proverbs 4:23

If God created the rose to heal the physical heart, and we know that His creation is a reflection of His qualities, what conclusion can we draw from this plant about God? He is the healer of our broken hearts.

He heals the brokenhearted, binding up their wounds. Psalms 147:3

By working with plants in this way- pondering the symbols you see- you can gain even deeper healing from revelations God shares with you about His creation. You can ask him to show you these types of connections.

2 Corinthians 2:10-12 But it was to us that God revealed these things by his Spirit. For his Spirit searches out everything and shows us God’s deep secrets. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And we have received God’s Spirit (not the world’s spirit), so we can know the wonderful things God has freely given us.


The symbolism and message of heart-helping plants is confirmed when we look at the thorny Hawthorn tree–another medicine for the physical heart. Again we see that when dealing with the heart, thorns (protection, boundaries, awareness) are essential.

Thorns create boundaries. When you reach to pick a rose, or harvest berries, haws, and hips- good gifts of beauty, food, and medicine- you had better be mindful of the thorns. Thorns, thistles, and spines came when this world was cursed.

Genesis 3:18  Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;

Just as wild animals protect themselves with claws and teeth, plants have protection in their thorns. So they are symbolic of the curse, but some good came out of it in the form of protection from the fallen nature of creation.

Ironically, rose petals are healing to the skin and capable of mending the very wounds their thorns inflict, symbolizing a heart of forgiveness.

This heart of forgiveness was shown in its greatest form on the cross in Christ who bore our curse, symbolized in the crown of thorns on His head. He is the Curse Breaker. He is the Rose of Sharon- our forgiveness, healing, and freedom.…More, Please!

The Spiritual Goals I’m Reaching for This Year

O Lord my God, I cried unto thee, and thou hast healed me. Psalm 30:2

I’ve noticed that my soul and physical health is sometimes connected to my spiritual health. The proper order is spirit, soul, then body (1 Thessalonians 5:23). Maintaining your spiritual health can help prevent certain soul or physical imbalances. Of course, this is not always the case. God allows us to have ailments for other reasons, like to strengthen or humble us, prove his power, show how a spiritual strength can be a physical weakness, and some are just natural issues. But, I truly believe spiritual health is the most important aspect of a person’s well being, so I encourage you to strive for growth in this area. Here are a few spiritual health goals I’m reaching for this year.

Spiritual Contentment

 Not that I speak in regard to need, for I have learned in whatever state I am, to be content: Philippians 4:11

We have to go beyond external circumstances & internal conflicts and find peace in God’s presence. We need to humble ourselves and trust him (Proverbs 3:5), no matter what’s going on. He is our provider, and in Christ we are fulfilled. I’m living and breathing there. Not trusting him robs me of peace and joy (Galatians 5:22-26). I stress out, start allowing circumstances to define me, and may start comparing my situation or thorns to others, which can affect me on various levels.

I don’t fall into complacency either. I work to change certain things. Just remember we all have a life to live, and that looks different from person to person. I’ve grown exponentially in this area over the years, but, of course, there is more work to be done. Giving this issue to God can bring healing or help maintain the orange or yellow energy centers of the body.

Speaking up as the Lord Leads

But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ Ephesians 4:15 

I’m naturally passive, don’t like to share my thoughts, and prefer to remain a mystery. Before my conversion, I just didn’t care to explain myself or help people understand something. But, as a Christian, there are times when Christ wants us to speak up and share Biblical truth, fused with grace and seasoned with salt (Colossians 4:6). I’ve done this in my writings and when talking with fellow Christians and non-believers at times, but I often don’t want to. I’m working on speaking up when the Holy Spirit urges me to do so. This can also help prevent imbalances in the throat region/blue energy center.…More, Please!

Don’t Grow Weary in Freely Giving to Christians

I don’t have a spiritual gift of giving. Don’t believe giving spiritual things is a ‘personal conviction’ or is cool or unique. At Tp, we offer prayer and all spiritual offerings freely because it’s Just, and they are not ours to sell. By grace we have received, through grace we give of ourselves and resources (Matthew 10:8). It is not our place to put up walls and try to block Godly help because of something as trivial as money. This belief aligns with the Bible, resonates with my spirit, and my faith. Freely giving to me means doing so not just with my heart but also with actions, so that means offering spiritual creations, spiritual gifts, witnessing to & praying for others for free, helping others, and giving my time, etc.

I also believe a personal ministry or local fellowship assembly is not a business. Spiritual entities should not sell things or yoke themselves with the government (2 Corinthians 6:14). This is why you don’t see business ads on this site and why we don’t sell any of our offerings.

How did I arrive at this conclusion? Well, one thing that helps me on my journey is I’m very reflective, and God helps me discern blurry lines (when he allows). I think with my mind and discern with my spirit and Bible (2 Timothy 3:16); we should not just follow the crowd (Exodus 23:2)(3 John 1:11) . As I always advise, we must go to God and the Word to see if we are doing the right thing, not the world. And we must handle the Word properly. We should seek advice from spiritual mentors, too (Proverbs 11:14) (Proverbs 12:15).

It is also right to support our home church and others doing God’s work. That aligns with the Bible. We are all parts of Christ’s body and should assist each other. (1 Corinthians 12:27) What God has given us will be used for Him when we freely give for the benefit of others. This is especially true for those who have a calling to work in ministry full time, like messengers of the Gospel and hard-working elders or pastors (though, technically, we are all in full time ministry). Most people have some basic expenses as mentioned in my Selling Jesus piece.

I am content and depend on God for all my needs, but I know how it feels to want to do more but can’t, constantly pulled back and forth. Thankfully, I don’t deal with that anymore. God taught me how to simplify my life so that I don’t need much, which frees up time. I know how it feels to wear several different hats and not get physical help from people who have the true skill (though the Lord fills in the gaps).

That’s one reason why, if Christians benefit from a spiritual creation, their local church, or someone’s personal ministry (all Christians have one-their spiritual abilities and evangelism), they should give back and share in some way from their hearts.
