Yeah, I chose another film to feature for this series. What can I say? This is one of my favorite artistic mediums. This short film was written and directed by Pierre M. Coleman and produced by Derek Morse. It’s approximately 19 minutes, so it will not take up much of your time.
I am not going to talk about it much, but I will share a few places my mind wandered. Of course, we see the oppression of the poor and how some feel they have no choice but to ‘do the wrong things for the right reasons.’ Life can be hard (some deal with more than others), but we cannot lose faith. I also thought about a few reasons why people reject Christ. Perhaps God does not align with their intelligence and rational thinking: How could a Good God allow…? Some refuse Christ because they do not want to submit to his will and want to keep doing their own thing. To some, what the world offers is far more appealing as we see in Matthew 19:16-23. And many people just resist the Holy Spirit (Acts 7:51).
We also know that God draws people to Christ. The natural self cannot do this as it is in opposition with God. (Romans 3:10-11). The Holy Spirit and the Word assist so that a person can come to Christ (Acts 16:14)(Acts 2:37). The Word reveals there is a general calling. Christ died for all of humanity, which gave access to all, yet only a few are chosen (for the wedding garment, or salvation, Matthew 22:14). This is also that narrow way that only a few find (Matthew 7:14). The Word clearly presents both cases for salvation. God controls it, yet the person is also responsible. We shouldn’t try to bring the Word down to our level. It’s the opposite. God hardens or softens hearts because he knows people (his creation) intimately (John 12:40)(Proverbs 20:27).
Here are a few more verses to reflect on:
No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:44
According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will Ephesians 1:4-5
For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved John 3:20
He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day John 12:48
He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me Luke 10:16
