An Open Letter to Christians

The following is a letter to all Christians from an unbeliever, which is part of Trinity Phix’s Letters From a Unbeliever Series. This post is answered in a corresponding post.

Dear Christ Follower,

I want to be clear. My intent is not to insult anyone. I believe that a good argument can help you. I think it is fair to say I do not hold any religion as truth but rather a possibility.

My belief in possibilities allows me to be open to all religions, including Christianity. But I do have an issue with one aspect of salvation.

Christian Mending: Should I Judge a Fellow Christian?

Most Christians know we should not judge the world’s actions (1 Corinthians 5:12-13), but what about fellow followers? Some followers of Christ think you should not attempt to Biblically correct Christians whose actions contradict the Bible. Most people who believe this use:

 Judge not, that ye be not judged.  Matthew 7:1 

Unfortunately, this verse has been manipulated. This manipulation allows Christians who are doing their own thing to keep doing so—without anyone questioning their actions.

We must handle the Word properly. You should not approach someone with the wrong motives or heart or when you are knowingly living in sin yourself. Also, you should not judge a Christian and blatantly say the person is going to hell for what they are doing, as you do not know the person’s ultimate path in Christ. Your intent should be to bring about repentance and to correct him or her in Love.

1 John 4:18 Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. (NLT)

When you think of addiction, what comes to mind? Substance abuse? Bad habits? Sin?

This year I have been coming to terms with my addiction to the products I rely on to keep my external body “beautiful.” When anything becomes an idol, it enslaves you. Although I’ve switched over to using only natural products on my skin and hair, the obsession and fear are still there. For example, out of fear I perform a ritual on my face every morning and every night to keep my skin clear.

There is nothing wrong with using products to keep your body clean and beautiful. It is your attitude that needs to be examined. As children, we played in the dirt, bathed when forced, and barely gave the mirror a second glance. We were free! Our bodies are fearfully and wonderfully made.
